First aid training enables you to offer immediate assistance to injured coworkers and help save lives. In most workplaces where the hazards are severe, it is required for employees to have a certain level of first aid training.

If you want to enroll in a first aid training course, it’s best to know the differences between the two major courses, i.e., standard and emergency first aid training.

Emergency First Aid Training

Emergency first aid or EFA is the most common training most workers opt for. This course is designed for busy employees as it can be difficult for employees to take time from their hectic routines. It only requires one day to receive basic first aid training with CPR “C” and AED.

This first aid training course covers essential skills required in emergencies to keep the patient stabilized until the medical help arrives. EFA training course includes:

  • EMS system training
  • Dealing with airway emergencies
  • Assisting in breathing and circulating emergencies
  • Checking the patient and informing the medical facilities
  • Aiding in respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Lowering infection risks

Standard First Aid Training

Standard First Aid (SFA) is a comprehensive course that provides all the information you need to identify hazards and respond to emergencies to ensure workplace safety. The course duration for this training is longer than the emergency first aid program, and it is more in-depth. Whether you choose level C CPR or level HCP is up to you.

It includes everything that emergency first aid offers but is more comprehensive, covering the following areas:

  • Assisting in spine and head injury cases
  • Wound care
  • Aiding in environmental or sudden medical emergencies
  • Joint, muscle, and bone injury

Certification Validity

If you receive any of these training from us, you’ll receive a nationally accredited Red Cross certificate stating that you completed CPR and AED training. This certificate is valid for three years. If you wish to renew the certificate, you will have to retake this course.

If you cannot commit to a comprehensive training session, you can opt for emergency first aid training. You will have the basic skills to respond to emergencies promptly. However, it’s best to take out some time and receive standard first aid training to acquire better skills.
