What You Will Learn
Delivered over two days (14 hours), this course moves beyond basic skills to cover complex trauma and medical emergencies. Participants will gain hands-on experience in:
- Life-Threatening Emergencies: Mastery of the Priority Action Approach (PAA), two-person CPR, and AED operation.
- Trauma Management: Treatment for chest injuries (pneumothorax), massive bleeding control including tourniquet application, and spinal immobilization.
- Environmental & Medical: Managing heatstroke, hypothermia, major burns (Rule of Nines), diabetic emergencies, and stroke.
- Patient Care: Conducting primary and secondary surveys and making critical transport decisions.
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for individuals designated as first aid attendants at workplaces with 20+ workers in moderate-hazard environments or remote sites more than 30 minutes from ambulance services. It is a preferred certification for workers in Coquitlam, Surrey, Richmond, and Vancouver looking to advance their safety credentials. Upon successful completion, students receive a WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certificate valid for 3 years.
