WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid (OFA 2) in Coquitlam
Join Metro Safety Training for our comprehensive Intermediate First Aid (IFA) course, formerly known as OFA Level 2. This WorkSafeBC-approved program is hosted at our central training facility located at 914 Sherwood Ave, Coquitlam, BC V3K 1A6. The course runs from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (PST) on March 2nd and 3rd, 2027.
This 14-hour, two-day certification is essential for first aid attendants working in moderate-to-high hazard workplaces, including construction, manufacturing, and warehousing. Serving students from Coquitlam, Surrey, Richmond, and Vancouver, our training provides the skills necessary to manage major emergencies until paramedics arrive.

What You Will Learn
- Life-Saving Assessments: Priority Action Approach (PAA), primary and secondary surveys, and two-person CPR with AED.
- Trauma Management: Treatment for flail chest, pneumothorax, sucking chest wounds, and massive bleeding control using tourniquets.
- Injury Care: Immobilization of major fractures, dislocations, and spinal management.
- Environmental & Medical Emergencies: Recognizing and treating heatstroke, hypothermia, diabetic emergencies, and major burns using the "rule of nines."
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for individuals designated as workplace first aid attendants under WorkSafeBC OHS Regulation Schedule 3-A. It is ideal for those in forestry, industrial settings, or remote sites more than 30 minutes from ambulance services. No prior first aid certificate (like BFA/OFA 1) is required to enroll.
Certification Details
Successful participants will receive a WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certificate, valid for three years. Evaluation is conducted through continuous practical assessment over the two days and a final written exam.
