Join Metro Safety Training for our comprehensive Intermediate First Aid (IFA) course, formerly known as OFA Level 2. This two-day, 14-hour program is scheduled for April 24 - 25, 2027, from 08:30 AM to 04:30 PM (PDT). Training is conducted at our central facility located at 914 Sherwood Ave, Coquitlam, BC V3K 1A6. What You Will Learn
This course is designed for high-hazard workplaces and remote sites where professional emergency services may be delayed. Participants will gain advanced skills in life-saving interventions, including:
- Trauma Management: Managing chest injuries (pneumothorax, flail chest), internal bleeding, and the application of tourniquets.
- Critical Care: Two-person CPR and AED operation, airway management, and treating hypovolemic shock.
- Injury Assessment: Immobilizing major fractures and dislocations, spinal management, and assessing major burns using the rule of nines.
- Environmental & Medical Emergencies: Treating heatstroke, hypothermia, poisoning, diabetic emergencies, and stroke.
Who Should Attend?
This certification is required by WorkSafeBC for first aid attendants at moderate-to-high hazard workplaces with 20+ workers, or remote sites more than 30 minutes from an ambulance. It is ideal for workers in construction, forestry, manufacturing, and warehousing in Coquitlam, Surrey, Richmond, and Vancouver looking to step up their workplace safety responsibilities.
Certification Details
Upon successful completion of the continuous evaluation and the final written exam, students will receive a WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certificate, valid for three years. This certificate meets all employer compliance audits under Schedule 3-A of the BC OHS Regulation.
