Is Intermediate First Aid the same as OFA Level 2?

Where is the training located and is there parking?

The course runs at Metro Safety Training in Coquitlam (914 Sherwood Ave). We offer free parking on-site and are easily accessible for students traveling from Surrey, Burnaby, and Vancouver.

Do I need to take Basic First Aid before this course?

No, there are no prerequisites for IFA. You do not need to hold a Basic First Aid (OFA 1) certificate to enroll in this course. You only need to be physically capable of performing CPR and scenario work.

What should I bring to the class?

Please bring a piece of government-issued photo ID (required for WorkSafeBC certification), a water bottle, and snacks. Wear comfortable clothing as you will be practicing hands-on skills like CPR and patient immobilization on the floor.

What You Will Learn

Participants will gain advanced life-saving skills through a mix of theory and hands-on scenarios. The curriculum includes:

Airway & Breathing: Management of flail chest, sucking chest wounds, and pneumothorax.
Circulatory Emergencies: Mastery of tourniquet application, internal bleeding management, and shock treatment.
Trauma Care: Immobilization of fractures, dislocations, and spinal injury management.
Medical Emergencies: Responding to strokes, seizures, diabetic emergencies, and major burns using the rule of nines.
CPR & AED: High-performance two-person CPR and AED operation.

Who Should Attend?

This course is required for designated first aid attendants at moderate-to-high hazard workplaces with 20 or more workers, or remote sites located more than 30 minutes from ambulance services. It is ideal for workers in the Tri-Cities, Surrey, and Vancouver who need to satisfy WorkSafeBC Schedule 3-A requirements.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the continuous evaluation and written exam, students receive a WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certificate. This certification is valid for three years and is recognized throughout British Columbia. Please ensure you bring government-issued photo ID to the session.
