What You Will Learn
Our expert instructors use a hands-on approach to ensure you are ready for real-world emergencies. This course builds on basic skills to include:
- Advanced Scene Management: Applying the Priority Action Approach (PAA) and conducting primary/secondary surveys.
- Life-Saving Skills: Two-person CPR with AED, massive bleeding control with tourniquets, and managing internal bleeding.
- Trauma Care: Management of chest injuries (pneumothorax/flail chest), fractures, dislocations, and spinal injuries.
- Medical & Environmental: Treating diabetic emergencies, strokes, burns (rule of nines), and hypothermia/heatstroke.
Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for individuals designated as first aid attendants at workplaces with 20 or more workers in moderate-hazard environments, or those in remote locations more than 30 minutes from an ambulance. No prior first aid certification (like BFA/OFA 1) is required to take this course.
Certification Earned
Upon successful completion and passing the written examination on the final day, students will receive a WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certificate. This certification is valid for 3 years and is recognized across British Columbia for workplace compliance.
