Yes, Intermediate First Aid (IFA) is the new WorkSafeBC designation for what was formerly known as Occupational First Aid Level 2 (OFA 2). The certification, 14-hour duration, and 3-year validity remain the same.

The course is held at Metro Safety Training, located at 914 Sherwood Ave, Coquitlam, BC V3K 1A6. Our facility offers free parking and is easily accessible for students coming from Surrey, Burnaby, and Vancouver.

What do I need to bring to the class?

Please bring a piece of government-issued photo ID (required for certification), a water bottle, and snacks. Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes, as you will be participating in hands-on practical scenarios and floor work.

Do I need to take Basic First Aid before enrolling in Intermediate?

No, there are no prerequisites for IFA. You do not need to hold a Basic First Aid (OFA 1) certificate before taking this course. However, you must be physically capable of performing CPR and patient immobilization.

Course Curriculum & Learning Outcomes

This 14-hour certification course is designed for workplace first aid attendants in moderate-to-high hazard environments. Over two days of intensive, hands-on training, students will master:

Life-Threatening Emergencies: Mastery of two-person CPR, AED operation, and management of massive external bleeding using tourniquets.
Trauma Management: Treatment for chest injuries (pneumothorax/flail chest), internal bleeding, and shock.
Musculoskeletal & Environmental: Immobilization of fractures and dislocations, as well as managing hypothermia, heatstroke, and major burns using the rule of nines.
Medical Emergencies: Recognition and response to strokes, seizures, and diabetic emergencies.
