As an employer, it’s important to prioritize the health and safety of your employees. There are many benefits to having a culture of safety and respect within an organization. It prevents accidents, improves motivation levels and loyalty among employees.

Those working at construction sites, in warehouses, and manufacturing facilities, in particular require safety measures to prevent injury and loss of life. These safety measures need to be revisited from time to time so that they can be improved.

Here’s how you can build a company culture that prioritizes safety:

Begin with the basics

Those who work with hazardous chemicals, heavy machinery, or in manual labor need to take safety very seriously. Failure to do so can lead to injury, loss of life, and even have long-term health effects. Companies need to formulate clear guidelines that are also easy to follow for their workforce. Your workers should always feel safe while working.

Proper signage

Make sure all safety signs are put up and correctly marked for workers. Have all hazardous chemicals labelled with brightly colored signs so that they don’t miss it. High voltage warning signs and signs for any potential danger should be correctly placed around the premises.

Reduce the chances of falls

Trips, slips, and falls are some of the most common workplace incidents. Over 42,000 workers get injured every year. Some falls can cause severe damage. Make sure the possibility of this is reduced by having a leveled floor made of slip-resistant materials.

Employee training

It’s equally important for employees to be well training with using equipment and learning the SOPs around the premises. This training will teach the staff to correctly lift heavy objects so that they don’t strain their back and also use protective gear wherever required.

Office based changes

For employees working desk jobs, organizations should encourage breaks to reduce the stain on the spine. Ergonomic chairs also prevent MSDs from developing. Standing desks can also be introduced so that employees aren’t living a sedentary lifestyle at work. Comfortable keyboards reduce the symptoms of carpal tunnel too.

When employees notice the efforts made by an organization to prioritize their wellbeing, they are more likely to put in hard work to lead the company to success. All these changes promote productivity and a safe environment so that employees can enjoy their time at work.
